Learning through nature

Now more than ever, with the climate crisis raging and the natural world depleting all around us, it's vital that children understand how important woodlands are for us and for wildlife. The best way to nurture this is to get out there and get stuck in.

The Forest of Marston Vale can offer a range of informal learning activities for schools and other groups, either Ranger led or self led.

Millennium Country Park

The Park has many opportunities for children to get outside and get close to nature. Our activities range from pond dipping to bug hunting, bird watching to scavenger hunting and provide children with a real, hands-on experience that many have never had. We usually limit groups to 30 children with a minimum ratio of at least one adult to six children.

There is no indoor classroom space but our Forest Shelter is available (though it is open-sided), which is why our school visits usually take place in spring/summer. There are, however, a range of rooms available for hire, if you require indoor space.

Costs

If your visit is for 2 hours or more, with at least 6 children aged between 4-16 then you will potentially be able to visit free of charge, as we can access funding via Natural England for a limited number of school visits. If you do not fall into this category then we charge £4 per child for half a day (minimum charge of £60) and £8 per child for a full day (minimum charge of £120).
